Residuality Theory

At Info Support, we design software architectures and build systems based on those architectures. However, in practice, we often find that reality is dynamic: the business evolves, and with it, the requirements for our systems. At such times, it may become clear that our original architecture is no longer sufficient to address new challenges. It’s never pleasant to have to go back to the business with the message that the architecture needs to be revised—especially when that comes with a hefty price tag.

But what if we could anticipate these unexpected changes early on and incorporate them into our architectural design? While there is no definitive solution, Residuality Theory offers a valuable conceptual framework that brings us closer to one. By borrowing insights from the Complexity Sciences, we can analyze complex systems and design an architecture that is resilient—even to problems we don’t yet know about, or that don’t even exist yet.

The beauty of it is: the degree of ‘resilience’ of your architecture can be measured and quantified.
