In deze cursus leren cursisten self-service Business Intelligence (BI) en Big Data analysis oplossingen implementeren met het Microsoft data platform. De cursus behandelt de redenen voor self-service BI, en behandeld hoe Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, Microsoft Excel en Microsoft SharePoint Server kan worden ingezet voor self-service analysis en reporting. Verder behandelt de cursus hoe Windows Azure HDInsight kan worden ingezet voor Big Data Analysis.

De primaire doelgroep van de cursus bestaat uit database en BI professionals, die kennis en ervaring hebben met data warehouses en enterprise BI oplossingen in SQL Server omgevingen. Ervaren data analisten, die willen leren hoe Microsoft technologie kan worden ingezet voor self-service analysis en reporting behoren tevens tot de doelgroep.

Na het afronden van de cursus zijn de cursisten instaat om:

• de belangrijkste functionaliteiten en voordelen van self-service BI te beschrijven.
• analytical data models te implementeren met PowerPivot in Microsoft Excel.
• data in een data model te importen met Power Query in Microsoft Excel.
• interactieve data visualisaties te maken met Power View in Microsoft Excel.

• Windows Azure HDInsight in te zetten en te gebruiken voor Big Data analysis.

• Big Data processen te ontwerpen en te implementeren ter ondersteuning van self-service BI.

Course outline

This course teaches students how to implement self-service Business Intelligence (BI) and Big Data analysis solutions using the Microsoft data platform. The course discusses the rationale for self-service BI, and describes how to use Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft SharePoint Server to create self-service data models and reports. The course then goes on to describe how to use Windows Azure HDInsight to perform Big Data analysis.

The primary audience for this course is database and business intelligence (BI) professionals who are familiar with data warehouses and enterprise BI solutions built with SQL Server technologies. Experienced data analysts who want to learn how to use Microsoft technologies for self-service analysis and reporting will also benefit from attending this course.

After completing this course, students will be able to:

• Describe key features and benefits of self-service BI.
• Use PowerPivot in Microsoft Excel to create analytical data models.
• Use Power Query in Microsoft Excel to import data into a data model.
• Use Power View in Microsoft Excel to create interactive data visualizations.
• Use Power Map in Microsoft Excel to create geographic data visualizations.
